In the 19th chapter of the Tenth Canto of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, a divine pastime of Śrī Krishna is described, where the cows and cowherd boys of Vraja found themselves surrounded by a blazing forest fire in the Muñja forest. As the flames threatened to consume them, the terrified boys turned to their only hope—Śrī Krishna—and fervently pleaded for His protection.
In response, Śrī Krishna, with divine composure, instructed them to simply close their eyes. Obedient and full of faith, the boys did as He said. In that moment, the Lord, the protector of His devotees, opened His mouth and swallowed the raging fire, effortlessly saving them from certain peril.
This pastime reveals a profound spiritual truth: our only refuge in the scorching fire of material existence is the Supreme Lord, Nandanandan Śrī Krishna. To imagine safety or peace apart from Him is pure delusion. The cowherd boys showed us the path—complete trust and surrender. They closed their eyes, placing their fate entirely in Krishna’s hands. Likewise, when we entrust ourselves to Him with unwavering faith, He rescues us from the relentless flames of the mundane world.
