When several disciples of Śrīla Prabhupāda humbly approached our Param Gurudev, they said:
“Maharaj, we did our best to acquire the birthplace of Guru Mahārāj, but we failed. If you take up this task, there’s a real chance it might be accomplished.”
Even Pūjyapād Yayāvar Goswāmī Mahārāj used to say:
“Sarva kārye’āhu Mādhavam”—meaning, “Where the efforts of all Vaiṣṇavas reach their limit, that is where the efforts of Mādhav Mahārāj begin.”
With this faith, the Vaiṣṇavas approached Param Gurudev and pleaded:
“Maharaj, now only you can fulfill this cherished service of acquiring Guru Mahārāj’s birthplace.”
Accepting their appeal as the heartfelt desire of the Vaiṣṇavas, Param Gurudev took responsibility for the task. He then instructed his dearmost disciple, Param Pūjya 108 Śrīmad Bhakti Vallabh Tīrtha Goswāmī Mahārāj, to go to Purī and gather every possible detail related to the sacred birthplace.
After returning from Purī, Guruji felt overwhelmed with a deep sense of impossibility. Every path seemed blocked; the mission appeared entirely unattainable.
He presented all his findings to Param Gurudev and explained the seemingly hopeless situation. Param Gurudev listened calmly, and then instructed Guruji to write a letter under his dictation.
While writing, Guruji’s mind was clouded with doubt:
“This is impossible… pursuing this will only waste time, energy, and money.”
Yet, as he remembered the intense longing of Pūjyapād Mādhav Goswāmī Mahārāj to recover the birthplace of his own Guru, Guruji’s heart softened.
He let go of his personal doubts and fully embraced the will of his Guru.
Through this example, Guruji taught us a profound lesson:
True discipleship does not merely mean obeying a command.
It means surrendering one’s own thoughts, desires, and logic — and wholeheartedly accepting the Guru’s will as one’s very own.
This is the essence of Anugatya—the living principle of following in deep surrender and trust.
